Healthy Foods?

Most people might think that choosing a healthy snack could mean raisins, dried fruit, or fresh fruit juice.  However, there can be hidden dangers for your teeth.  Dried fruit and raisins stick to teeth giving your teeth a sugar bath, and fruit juices contain acids and sugars that can erode tooth enamel.  You should also think about when and how often you eat snacks.  Damaging acids form in your mouth every time you eat sugary snacks.  The acids continue to affect your teeth for at least 20 minutes before they are neutralized, so eating continuously throughout the day can be hard on your teeth.  Since you cannot avoid these foods all of the time, it is important to be careful how often you eat them and how you treat your teeth after you eat.  Rinsing with plain water immediately after eating and brushing within half an hour is recommended to reduce your chances of developing decay.  Remember when choosing a healthy snack, don’t forget to think about your teeth!
