Most 1st teeth are lost between 6 and 7 years old.  If your child’s teeth erupted early, they are more likely to lose them sooner.  Baby teeth loosen as their roots dissolve to make room for permanent teeth.  Most children will have all 20 of their primary teeth by the age of 2 ½ .

The enamel is the hard outer covering of each tooth.  The enamel protects the tooth from the wear and tear of chewing and is part of your tooth that you brush and floss each day.  However, under the enamel are other parts of the tooth, and each part fills an important role in the function of the mouth.

Dry socket is the inflammation of the bone and nerve endings below the socket where a tooth has been extracted.  Dry socket occurs in 5-10% of extractions and is caused when there is interference in the blood clot formation over the extraction socket.
