Partial Dentures

A partial denture is made of plastic teeth attached to a metal framework which can be removed from your mouth.

Benefit and Description: Partial dentures are used when the teeth surrounding the gap created by missing teeth are not strong enough to support a bridge. A partial denture helps preserve the condition of your existing teeth.

Treatment: This procedure requires at least three visits. During the first appointment, surrounding teeth are restored with fillings or crowns. Then an impression of your surrounding teeth is taken to be used as a model to make the partial denture. The next appointment is to fit the partial denture and record relationships of the upper and lower jaws.  The partial denture is delivered at the next appointment.

Problem Area Correction: Restores the area of the gap to normal function.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How does the partial denture stay in?
Partial dentures are held in place by retentive clasps that attach to the teeth.

Will the partial denture be loose and effect the way I talk? Your partial denture will not be loose, but as with anything in the mouth that takes up space, your tongue will have to get used to and compensate for it's presence.
